A clever solution for spanning a large body of water, Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge features two diesel engines that allow it to swing open and let through oceangoing ships. Probably the world's only permanent pontoon bridge, this structure originally opened in 1888 and went through a complete reconstruction in the 1930s. Today, the "Swinging Old Lady" allows you to cross the St. Anna Bay on foot, or watch huge vessels entering and leaving the harbor. When the bridge swings open, two free-of-charge ferries bring pedestrians from one side of the bay to the other. A bridge unlike any other in the world. It's a landmark that must be visited when traveling to Curaçao, even if you just walk across it. It's a very well maintained bridge that is still in use today. Instead of a draw bridge, it turns sideways.

Really liked the experience, we also learned on the spot that the bridge moves every so often to allow boats to pass. It was a bit scary just seeing the bridge move. I think they should put a sign especially it being a tourist area, for persons just updating us that the bridge opens ever so often to eliminate that panic moment. Really beautiful city though
