Hard climb, but worth the effort for the views. The panorama of the sea and the city are worth the climb. There are many places to sit and rest along the way with some interesting views.

We got the 33 bus up from Nice. The area is quite nice, but there's not that many different paths. Some good views and the fort looks quite nice (though you cannot get into it), but nothing...

Lovely park to visit for a picnic, a good walk (fairly hilly), or to visit the fort (only external viewing available). You can drive right up to the top with free parking, or get the bus from Nice . Great views from the top of both Nice and Villefranche. The walk back down into Nice is scenic and very steep. Just a word of warning. The walk through the trees that is mapped in one of my pictures is very rough, rocky, and requires good footwear.

We took the bus up to catch the sunrise over Nice. Many different trails - we did a shorter, moderate trail and it still had great views.
