  • From an experience POV, this is a must-do for Hamburg. It's the gateway to the docks, it's free and it is a magical glimpse into a time gone-by. But it's also still heavily used, not just by...

  • Very nice to walk through the tubes, and it is amazing that it is over 100 years old. Scaling the stairs is fine exercise. And free of charge.

  • Huge, historic tunnel. Definitely worth seeing, and walking the distance that goes under the waterway. We went during a weekday, which I believe accounts for it being the amount of busy to educate yourself on how the locals utilize the tunnel, but not so busy that the the paths is immovable. The stairs and elevator up and down, give you a good feel to just how deep the tunnel goes. And yes, if you want to bike it, there is a special elevator for the bikers as well as one for pedestrians. The stairs are manageable too if you don't have a fear of heights. Just be mindful of the bikers pedestrians.
  • A must go place. The lift takes you down, and is huge. The tunnel is approximately 500 meters long and you can easily walk or take a bike there. It is open for public, but do mind the Lift stops at 20:00 and after that You will have to take the stairs which could really be tiring. The tunnel is sometimes cold so make sure you wear an overcoat when you get in there. The view of the city from the port side is really amazing. Must go place if you are in Hamburg.
