  • The mosaics of the temple are in excellent condition for 2,000 years old, the colors are very rich and a part of life and expression of a cultured society.

  • Not totally destroyed and lost by the eruption of Vesuvius. Preserved in the volcanic muds that enveloped the city.

  • The house of Neptune and Amphitrite in Herculaneum represents a Roman house that was buried during the mythical eruption of Vesuvius in 79. The scasa was brought to light following the archaeological excavations of ancient Herculaneum. It was called in this way because a mosaic depicting Neptune and Amphitrite was found. The house of Neptune and Amphitrite was owned by a wealthy merchant and was buried under a blanket of mud, ashes, pyroclasts and debris caused by the fury of Vesuvius in 79. It was definitively brought to light through the excavations promoted by Amedeo Maiuri between 1932 and 1934. The house is located along Cardo IV, opposite the entrance to the women's section of the Terme del Foro and has a total extension of about two hundred meters. Outside the house, near the entrance, there is a caupona, belonging to the same owner. It is one of the best preserved shops in the city and inside it has been found numerous furnishings and part of the wooden furniture, as well as a masonry counter with recessed doli, inside which chickpeas and broad beans were stored.
