Enjoy the views from the seaside Castel dell'Ovo, the oldest standing fortification in Naples. Its name comes from a legend that a sorcerer placed a magical egg in the foundation of the castle. If the egg breaks, the building supposedly will be destroyed, and Naples will experience a series of disastrous events. Study the tiled map of the landscape to identify the many landmarks you can see. • Well worth a visit. You have to book a time slot on the website but this is easy. Surprisingly the entrance is free but you can pay 10 euro for a 45 min guided tour which we took. You get to see...

  • You have to register here before arrival in advance, but this place is free of charges. It's nice historical castle, but it has nothing special to offer. Just thick walls with no exhibitoin inside. The view from the castle is quite nice. If you miss the opportunity to visit this castle, don't worry, you won't miss a lot.
  • The castle is closed until June 8 2022. There are dozens of 5 star reviews over the last few days and Google hours indicates it is open too so we thought it would be open. The reviews are for the business on the island the castle is on and not for the castle itself or at least not from anyone that actually went in. We spent 30 euros on a taxi and wasted our time and money getting there only to see it was closed. The areas around it are nice and people are sunbathing in the rocks and swimming in the water along the bridge but you cant go into the castle.
