Create an itinerary including Haedong Yonggungsa
Nestled up against the rocky coastline, Haedong Yonggungsa offers sweeping sea views and a rare example of oceanfront medieval architecture in the country. Originally constructed in 1376, the temple has in the following centuries undergone several periods of restoration and reconstruction. Make your way along the 108 steps to the main part of the sanctuary, and you'll find the path lined with anthropomorphic animal statues representing the signs of the zodiac. Peel off towards the sea to get a panoramic view out over the water from the rocky viewpoint, where you can feel the breeze blowing and hear the waves crashing against the shore. Explore the main portion of the temple and find its numerous nooks and crannies, filled with icons, statues, and artworks dedicated to teachings of the Buddhist faith. • It is beautiful, spectacular view, picturesque. A calming place, Korean are disciplined, so it makes a smoothing and easy experience. 1300 century old but very well maintained by govt. Must visit.

  • Located in southeast part of Busan, the temple is nestled in a mountain overlooking the ocean. A temple with lots of history and exquisitely designed. The temple can be very crowded so try to visit...

  • I've never seen such a idyllic temple before. The location is just stunning and the temple itself as well. It's so located in such a beautiful landscape and the temple is in pretty good shape. You can see a lot and enjoy the ocean view at the same time. When I'll go to Korea again I'll definitely will visit this place again. And did I mention that you can visit this temple for free? Another nice aspect is that before you enter the temple, there is a little market, where you can try and buy delicious snacks and foods
  • I've been to over 20 Buddhist temples in Korea and this one is definitely in the most scenic location. The actual temple itself or Buddha statue are not as grandiose as other temple sites, but this one provides numerous excellent architectural and decorative features throughout the property for great photos. I've been wanting to come here ever since I saw pics of the place in a magazine and it was definitely worth the drive.
