The IKEA Museum is a museum located in Älmhult, Sweden, that opened to the public on June 30, 2016. It presents the history of the Swedish furnishing company IKEA. It replaced IKEA Through the Ages (located in the Corporate Culture Center 'Tillsammans'), a smaller 800 m2 exhibition that showed 20 different room settings with IKEA furniture and objects.
The IKEA Museum is in the same building where the first IKEA store opened in 1958. The store moved to a new location in Älmhult in 2012. At this time, work began on converting the store into a museum, with an original planned opening date of 2015. The facade of the building was restored to recreate its original appearance. The museum has an area of 3500 m2.

  • If you happen to have your ways going through the south of Sweden, then do make a detour to the small town of Älmhult, which is where IKEA started. Now they have made the old warehouse into a museum.....  more

  • This was fantastic. We travelled from Australia so definitely had to put this on our ‘to do’ list. It was so interesting seeing the origins of where IKEA came from. Some fun interactive stuff as well as lots of interesting reading. We spent nearly 2 and a half hours in the museum. Highly recommend.
  • Makes for a nice visit to kill some time, especially for the low price! Exhibitions were mixed static and interactive but plenty to do and see, even for children. We had the most fun with the set up that allowed you to shoot and print your own copy of the IKEA catalogue cover. Staff very pleasant and accommodating and free unlimited tea, coffee, water and lemonade during our visit.
