Peek into the intimate life of Swedish royalty at Sofiero Palace, one of the family's country mansions. Originally built in 1865, the home was expanded to its current size in 1876 when King Oscar II came into power. In 1905 the castle was given as a wedding gift to the king's grandson, future King Gustaf VI Adolf, who loved the castle so much he donated it to the general public upon his death. Take a guided tour or use an audio guide to explore the upstairs of the castle with rooms decorated in period furnishings, or stop by the lower level, which now houses a cafe. The castle is best-known for its stunning rhododendron gardens featuring 500 different species. Take a picnic on the sprawling lawns and soak in the greenery. Lovely gardens with plants for the whole season in a varied landscape. British born Crown Princess Margaret planned the floral richness one century ago. Fine little castle with a temporary fancy...

Very nice garden. Gorgeous walk down the canyon, covered in rhododendron. Food options are OK but not fantastic. Playground is good but could be bigger and better.

Beautiful gardens, and nice strolling areas. Spent 5 hours just walking around, eating ice cream, lunch, visiting the palace exhibition etc. Probably haven't even seen all the cozy nooks and crannies in the park, lots of small foot paths.
