As the oldest castle in Scandinavia, Malmohus castle stands as a beautiful red brick fortress and adjoins the castle built in the 1530s. An important stronghold of Denmark, this castle-turned-prison tells the story of its captives. For five years the castle imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots' third husband, James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell. Today the castle is home to a museum of ancient art, modern photography, taxidermy, and prison cells for touring. Limited signage is provided in English. • A great place with such a wide variety of exhibits there’s something for everyone. We didn’t get a chance to see everything-so make sure you have plenty of time.

  • There's a good natural history museum suitable for kids primary school age. Also has aquarium and terrarium. The exhibition of modern art on the upper floor is pretty weird.
  • Very cool. With lots of history. Was under construction and closed during COVID but is now open and has some great exhibits. The aquarium section was amazing and the animals are well-treated and they have made an effort to give them a cruelty-free environment.
