Experience centuries of Swedish history through architecture, reconstructed farms, and live reenactments at Skansen, one of the world's first open-air museums. The property, established in 1891, boasts 150 houses and other buildings that have been moved from different parts of the country to this site as examples of regional style. Here Scandinavian traditions are upheld through craft making and Swedish celebrations. Take in views of Stockholm from this vantage point--kids will especially like the Stockholm zoo and children's zoo. After exploring the museum and watching living history actors in period dress, stop into the museum shop to purchase national specialties and handicrafts. Maybe one of the coolest places I have visited. For me where I am from (North Carolina) The only way I can explain this to people is a mixture of the Zoo and Old Salem. It is such a fun place to experience. I really enjoyed being here when I visited my friend in 1999. Highly Recommend Can't wait to get back and visit with my Son

This place may not be for everyone but I loved it. The history is wonderful and its one of the first open air museums in the world. Houses date back as far as 1300's. Unfortunately not all houses are open depending on the day and season but it is always fun to interact with the "actors" who are very kind and knowledgeable. Its worth checking out if in Stockholm but may not be for all.
