Create an itinerary including Baan Dam Museum
Part private collection, part public exhibition, Baan Dam Museum belonged to veteran local artist Thawan Duchanee (now deceased). Examine arrangements of Duchanee's artworks, displayed in a vast feast hall, and admire the many finely sculpted wooden buildings on the property, which are works of art unto themselves. Black is both a physical description of the buildings' predominant color scheme, and a symbolic description of the macabre art, which is heavy on animal skulls, skins, sculptures of demons, and racks of antique guns. • We had great expectations before we went there. But it was ok, but not more than that. When you have 2 hours left in Chiang Rai you can drive there in 25min and look around for 1 hour.

  • Really liked this place, with its art, nice traditional buildings and nice garden space with benches to sit. Notice that many of the artworks in the main hall are interactive/AR via QR code and link to Instagram but there is nothing to explain that. Could even take some snacks and enjoy chilling in the shade in the garden.
  • A very unique installation with a LOT of artworks. There are several buildings with different and amazing items. Main building has very cool art works with a QR code near it. Scan it and it will take you to instagram filter which after loading will show the artwork moving on your phone, just make sure to point the phone at the art. The entrance fee was 80 baht, and it was not crowded at all. Make sure to put some bug spray before you go, most of the art is outside and bugs will munch on you :) There are some places to get cold water and soft drinks and also some beer :) Ice cream also available:) Allow at least an hour to an hour and half for this place. Also if you are taking Grab to get there, to get Grab back into town will take some time, the location is a bit remote and not a lot of cars out there . Highly recommended to visit!
