Szeged — 2 nights

Szeged is the third largest city of Hungary, the largest city and regional centre of the Southern Great Plain and the county seat of Csongrád county. Start off your visit on the 2nd (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Szeged Synagogue, don't miss a visit to Dom Square, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Domotor Tower, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Votive Church, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church of Szeged. On the 3rd (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Szeged Zoo, don't miss a visit to Karasz utca, then relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, and finally examine the collection at Pick Salami and Szeged Paprika Museum.

Debrecen — 4 nights

Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary after Budapest. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Debrecen: Erdos Pince - Borkatakomba (in Tokaj) and Zoo Sosto (in Nyiregyhaza). Spend the 5th (Wed) exploring nature at Hortobagy National Park. There's lots more to do: relax and rejuvenate at Aquaticum Medicinal and Thermal Baths, identify plant and animal life at Tokaj Wine Region, examine the collection at Deri Museum, and admire the striking features of Great Church (Nagytemplom).

You can drive from Szeged to Debrecen in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In April, daily temperatures in Debrecen can reach 20°C, while at night they dip to 6°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Budapest.
