City of Seven Hills

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Venture out of the city with trips to Sintra (Quinta da Regaleira, Pelourinho de Sintra, &more). There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Alfama, stop by Bairro Alto, take in the views from Ponte 25 de Abril, and pause for some photo ops at Padrao dos Descobrimentos.

Coimbra — 2 nights

The university town of Coimbra exudes modern flair while embracing its roots as the medieval capital of Portugal.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Mon): pause for some serene contemplation at Capelas Imperfeitas, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Batalha Monastery, then make a trip to Roda do parque do Mouchao, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Convento de Cristo, and finally don't miss a visit to Igreja de Sao Joao Baptista. Dedicate the 8th (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area.
