When traveling from Amsterdam in July, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Budapest: temperatures range from 33°C by day to 18°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sun) so you can drive to Keszthely.

Veszprém is one of the oldest urban areas in Hungary, and a city with county rights. Kick off your visit on the 4th (Fri): pause for some photo ops at Szentharomsag Statue and then wander the streets of Castle Hill (Veszpremi Varhegy). On your second day here, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Borostyan Fountain and then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Veszprem Zoo.

You can drive from Keszthely to Veszprem in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In August in Veszprem, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 20°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Nyiregyhaza.

Nyíregyháza is a city in northeastern Hungary and the county capital of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. Attractions like Zoo Sosto and Aquaticum Medicinal and Thermal Baths make great kid-friendly stops. Venture out of the city with trips to Mad Synagogue (in Mad), Gombos-hegyi Cellars (in Hercegkut) and Kossuth Memorial House (in Monok). Next up on the itinerary: identify plant and animal life at Tokaj Wine Region, pause for some serene contemplation at Co-cathedral of Our Lady of the Hungarians, see the interesting displays at Sosto Museum Village, and stroll around Nagyerdei Park.

Traveling from Veszprem in August, plan for slightly colder nights in Nyiregyhaza, with lows around 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Eger.
