Wollongong — 5 nights

Wollongong, informally referred to as "The Gong", is a seaside city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Kids will appreciate attractions like Minnamurra Falls and Nattai National Park. Spend the 8th (Wed) exploring nature at Kanangra-Boyd National Park. And it doesn't end there: learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Symbio Wildlife Park, get your game on at Revolution Laser Arena, have fun and explore at Science Space, and take in nature's colorful creations at Wollongong Botanic Garden.

Hobart to Wollongong is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus, ferry, and train. While traveling from Hobart, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Wollongong, ranging from highs of 27°C to lows of 13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Sydney.

You can drive from Wollongong to Sydney in 1.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Sydney when traveling from Wollongong in April, with lows around 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Tue) early enough to drive to Newcastle.

Named after Lord Byron's grandfather, Byron Bay is not only famous as the easternmost point of Australia, but even more so as one of the liveliest vacation spots in the country.
Kids will enjoy Watersports Guru and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Byron Bay: Lismore Produce Market (in Lismore), Spooky Beach (in Angourie) and Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre (in Murwillumbah).
