Budapest — 2 nights

Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Fisherman's Bastion and Heroes' Square will appeal to history buffs. Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum and Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria) will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Budapest with an excursion to Nemzeti Botanikus Kert in Vacratot--about 44 minutes away. There's still lots to do: pause for some serene contemplation at St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), contemplate the long history of Dohány Street Synagogue, examine the collection at House of Terror Museum, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Matthias Church.
