Tournai — 2 nights

Tournai, known in Dutch as Doornik and historically as Dornick in English, is a Walloon municipality of Belgium, 85km southwest of Brussels on the river Scheldt. Tyne Cot Cemetery and Église Saint-Jacques will appeal to history buffs. Museum-lovers will appreciate Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 and In Flanders Fields Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tournai: Pairi Daiza (in Brugelette) and Menin Gate Memorial (in Ieper (Ypres)). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Notre Dame Cathedral, see the interesting displays at Musée d'Histoire naturelle & Vivarium, take in panoramic vistas at The Belfry of Tournai, and pause for some serene contemplation at Eglise Saint-Nicolas.

For where to stay, other places to visit, more things to do, and tourist information, you can read our Tournai online trip itinerary planner.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Brussels Airport, Ostend-Bruges International Airport, Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Antwerp International Airport (Deurne). In August in Tournai, expect temperatures between 74°F during the day and 56°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
