You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.

Gyor — 2 nights

Győr is the most important city of northwest Hungary, the capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Western Transdanubia region, and—halfway between Budapest and Vienna—situated on one of the important roads of Central Europe. Start off your visit on the 13th (Tue): contemplate the long history of Pannonhalma Archabbey and then admire the natural beauty at Pannonhalma Abbey Gardens and Herbal Lavender House. Keep things going the next day: get to know the resident critters at Zoo Gyor, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Benedictine Church, then get to know the fascinating history of Gyor Old Town Area, and finally get great views at Bishop-Lookout Tower.

Keszthely is a Hungarian city of 20,895 inhabitants located on the western shore of Lake Balaton. Venture out of the city with trips to Sumeg Castle (in Sumeg), Konyari Pinceszet (in Balatonlelle) and Lake Cave (in Tapolca). Pécs is the fifth largest city of Hungary, located on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains in the south-west of the country, close to its border with Croatia.
