One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Head to Myeongdong Shopping Street and Namdaemun Marketfor some retail therapy. Pack the 23rd (Sun) with family-friendly diversions at Lotte World. There's lots more to do: take an in-depth tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace, brush up on your military savvy at The War Memorial of Korea, explore the world behind art at National Folk Museum of Korea, and get great views at N Seoul Tower.

Cheongju is the capital and largest city of North Chungcheong Province in South Korea.HistoryCheongju has been an important provincial town since ancient times.During Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea, Cheongju was the site of the Battle of Chongju, during which the Korean forces re-took the city from the Japanese forces in an important early victory.The government of the province relocated here from Chungju in 1908.The opening of the Chungbuk-line in 1926 sparked regional development. Get out of town with these interesting Cheongju side-trips: Boeun-gun (Samnyeon Sanseong Fortress & Beopjusa Temple). There's lots more to do: take in the pleasant sights at Sangdangsanseong Fortress, steep yourself in history at Cheongnamdae, take an in-depth tour of Cheongju National Museum, and look for all kinds of wild species at Dugguhbi Saengtae Munhwagwan.

Do your shopping at Seomun Market and Hyundai Department Store Daegu. The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Head to Busan Gamcheon Culture Village and Shinsegae Dept. Store Centum Cityfor plenty of shopping. There's lots more to do: get outside with Haeundae Beach, examine the collection at Busan Museum, walk around Busan Citizens Park, and don't miss a visit to Seokbulsa Temple.

The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju, has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
For shopping fun, head to Arario Museum Tapdong Cinema or Dongmun Market. Change things up with these side-trips from Jeju: Seogwipo (Gasiri Wind Power Plant, Seongsan Ilchulbong, &more).
