Gold Coast

A city of towering skyscrapers, sandy beaches, and tree-lined streets, Gold Coast has an unpretentious air complemented by a citywide focus on sports and the arts.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Thu): relax and rejuvenate at Richard Lu Acupuncture and Chinese Massage and then kick back and relax at Surfers Paradise Beach.

If you are flying in from Switzerland, the closest major aiports are Brisbane International Airport and Gold Coast Airport. Expect a daytime high around 33°C in January, and nighttime lows around 24°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Brisbane.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Get out of town with these interesting Brisbane side-trips: Maleny (McCarthy's Lookout & Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World) and Boat Tours & Water Sports (in Mooloolaba). There's lots more to do: stroll around South Bank Parklands, see the interesting displays at Opal Museum, get in on the family fun at Channel Seven Wheel of Brisbane, and look for all kinds of wild species at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

Drive from Gold Coast to Brisbane in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In January, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 25°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can go by car to Byron Bay.

Byron Bay — 8 nights

Named after Lord Byron's grandfather, Byron Bay is not only famous as the easternmost point of Australia, but even more so as one of the liveliest vacation spots in the country.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Byron Bay: Hastings Point Headland (in Hastings Point), Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre (in Murwillumbah) and Big Prawn (in Ballina). The adventure continues: visit a coastal fixture at Cape Byron Lighthouse, head outdoors with Byron Bay Dive Centre, kick back and relax at Broken Head Beach, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Cape Byron Walking Track.
