The medieval town of Bruges centers around a canal, and the architecture of its historical district has made it a World Heritage Site.You've now added Bruges Ballooning to your itinerary. Get out of town with these interesting Bruges side-trips: Antwerp (Antwerp's Port, MAS - Museum aan de Stroom, &more), Tournai (Citadel of Tournai, Parc communal, &more) and Ghent (Guildhall of the Free Boatmen, Caermersklooster Provincial Centre of Art and Culture, &more). West Flanders province contains Belgium's entire North Sea coastline, a major tourist destination in this part of Europe. In addition to a string of commercialized beaches, the province boasts several medieval cities soaked in history and rich in architectural heritage. Bruges, the provincial capital, serves as one of the country's major hubs of commerce, education, culture, and entertainment. Away from its heavily urbanized areas, West Flanders features a largely flat countryside crisscrossed by well-maintained roads and cycling paths. The province draws a growing number of foreign visitors with its lesser-known towns like Veurne and Ostend, which boast photogenic public squares, traditional breweries, and spired cathedrals.
