Cairns — 5 nights

The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Visiting Scuba & Snorkeling and Palm Cove Beach will get you outdoors. Museum-lovers will get to explore Daintree Discovery Centre and Daintree Entomological museum. Explore Cairns' surroundings by going to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures (in Wangetti), Peter Jarver Gallery (in Kuranda) and Mount Alexandra Lookout (in Cape Tribulation). Spend the 9th (Wed) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: trek along Esplanade Boardwalk, take an exotic tour of a safari tour, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, and kick back and relax at Trinity Beach.
