6 days in Porto Itinerary

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.

Shop till you drop at Mercado Bom Sucesso and Mercado do Bolhao. You'll get in some beach time at Praia Fluvial de Loriga and Matosinhos Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Porto side-trips: Serra da Estrela (in Serra da Estrela), Guimaraes (Largo da Oliveira & Paco dos Duques de Braganca) and Forum Aveiro (in Aveiro). Dedicate the 18th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Next up on the itinerary: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja do Carmo, get into the urban bustle at Palacio da Bolsa, kick back and relax at Praia dos Palheiros da Tocha, and enjoy breathtaking views from Torre dos Clerigos.
