Home to sultans for centuries, Topkapi Palace is a World Heritage Site with a rich history and superb Ottoman architecture. Built by Sultan Mehmed II in the 15th century, the enormous palace's courtyards and buildings were, at one time, home to almost 4,000 people. Though much of the site is off limits to tourists, one of the highlights you can access is its highly ornate harem, with an intriguing history and notable interiors. Though royalty later moved to European-style residences along the Bosphorus, this palace is important for being truly Ottoman in spirit and design. Using our custom trip planner, Istanbul attractions like Topkapi Palace can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

If you love all things history then this place is a must. They offer Tours and also Audio Guides that you can use on your own. Definitely worth the experience. I couldn’t take many pictures due to the no camera policy (although some people still did) but I’m happy about that as I was able to live in the moment which is rare nowadays.

The Palace was interesting however be aware that you need to give your passport/national ID or personal ID for the headphones if you want the audio. Not all areas open as there is extensive restoration work. But a good way to spend a couple of hours and the grounds are lovely. Couple of cafes to sit and people watch.
