Sitting on a hilltop above town, Palanok Castle saw use by several royal families and was later transformed into a prison. Dating back to the 1300s, the site was once a powerful fortress; 164 canons protected it and a moat with a wooden wall ran around the estate. You can explore the castle's gardens and enter its old humid chambers on your own, or ask for a guided tour. You'll have a chance to visit the mysterious complex of underground tunnels that connect 130 rooms. On a tour, you'll hear many tales and legends about the site. Really nice place with unforgotten views! Many interesting expositions. It's a little sorry for me that it's more the history of Hungarian not Ukrainian. However there was interesting visit.

It was nice overall, you can learn about history, legends and have a view over the town of Mukachevo. The only issue is that more than half of the museums were closed as usual. You have the opportunity to get a tour guide and some souvenirs. Also, it's a good idea to visit the castle 🏰 for the night view of the town, the castle closes at 5pm.
