Nestled in a pristine green area, provides for about 2,800 animals representing 377 species, some of which are endangered. Dating back to 1901, the zoo started off as the private aquarium collection of the mayor. Over time, it grew into an institution with one of the richest varieties of animals in the country. In 2003, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums added it to their list, making it the first one in Ukraine to be internationally certified. Walk through the grounds and encounter wild and domestic animals of all kinds and sizes: you'll see tigers at play, observe hippopotamuses, and watch the monkeys. A big zoo with very lovely animals. They seem to be well taken care of. But some cages are too small... Especially for those species that need a lot of space for running, flying etc. 😔 And it smells so badly around here! The zoo should be cleaned more thoroughly. Besides, the buildings look quite old and rustic and really need to be renovated. I hope that the funding will be increased soon and they will be able to improve this place.

Often cited as one of the best animal attractions in the Ukraine, Mykolaiv Zoo has 5,500 inhabitants from more than 500 species. Children will be most excited about a visit, getting to see big cats like lions and tigers, as well as a pair of polar bears, African elephants, meerkats, wallabies, wolves and many more of their favourites. The zoo also has the ever-popular farm area where kids can meet and pet goats and gentle Bactrian camels.
