Blaenavon Ironworks is a former industrial site which is now a museum in Blaenavon, Wales. The ironworks was of crucial importance in the development of the ability to use cheap, low quality, high sulphur iron ores worldwide. It was the site of the experiments by Sidney Gilchrist Thomas and his cousin Percy Gilchrist that led to "the basic steel process" or "Gilchrist–Thomas process".

The ironworks is on the outskirts of Blaenavon, in the borough of Torfaen, within the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, a World Heritage Site. The site is under the care of Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service.

The descent into the black mine was in a crowded lift. The old miner that led the tour shared personal experiences working in a 1 meter shaft. Incomparable

Love day out with the boyfriend, really enjoyed our day out. Never been before but can say it was really worth it. Very friendly staff in the gift shop/entrance. Very informative and interesting to learn all about the steal works and how people lived. Great parking and toilets available. Would highly recommend to any family or people interested in local history. Also saw some picnic benches which would be lovely to use in the summer months. 10 out of 10 for me !!

Great place to learn how the ironworkers lived 200 years ago. The exhibition sites are very informative, the view from the top of the balance tower is breathtaking. Even though it was raining when we visited Blaenavon I honestly enjoyed the tour.
