The illustrious Careway family built Carew Castle & Tidal Mill in its strategic location along a lowland river estuary. Take advantage of the unique location and the views from the parapets. Built on a site with over 2,000 years of occupation, researchers have even found Iron Age settlements on the same hill. With over a millennium of history, the castle has experienced many periods of growth and decline. The modern site is now heavily restored, so use the audio guide to bring it to life. Visit the tidal mill, a type of mill which turns with the rise and fall of the estuary waters--one of only four left in Britain. The mill is a fifteen-minute walk from the castle. Loved the atmosphere in this castle set near a large pond. So beautiful and a complex number of rooms. You can circumvent the lake and take stunning pictures. The mill is worth a visit too.

Good castle with information, activities and lots of wildlife. We got there quite late so ended up not going to the mill so I would recommend carving out a few hours of you want to visit here. Good amount of info on the castle itself in the guide and has a nice flow to exploring it. Dog friendly as well and looks like it has a nice gift shop and cafe area.

My girlfriend and I visited Carew Castle as part of our short stay in Wales. There is plenty of parking near the castle and is quite easy to get to. Tickets were between 5 and 6 pounds per adult, and can be bought from the shop near the castle, which also has a tea house/cafe and gift shop within it. The tickets include a pamphlet/guide you can follow as you walk in and around the castle. The castle itself looks great from a distance but is quite impressive from the inside, and you can visit over a dozen separate rooms or areas in the castle, and windy stairs in one section will take you up multiple levels, which offer great views of the surrounding area. One of the main rooms had a wood fire going in a fireplace, which added a lovely touch to our stroll through the castle. We visited when the weather had been very cold, so the tidal area was iced over, which added to the already fantastic views. The castle took between 30 and 45 minutes to visit each room or area, and it took maybe another 20 minutes to walk the loop to tidal mill, across the river, then around the tidal pond. Definitely loved this place!
