“What interests me is using color to steer the eye across the plane. I present the subject, but the meaning is not dictated, that is left to the viewer.” - Ryan Cronin.Use Inspirock's suggestions to plan your New Paltz trip and find the best activities and attractions for your vacation.
Cronin's work is immediately compelling, visually stimulating and thought provoking. He masks deep commitment and seriousness of intent behind a "primitive" facade. He knows exactly what he is doing and he does it very well. Highly recommended
Ryan Cronin was born on June 21,1972 on the front seat of a late 60’s Plymouth Station wagon. It was a fitting beginning for this bold artist.
Growing up in the 1980’s in Northern Westchester, NY, Cronin was surrounded by and embraced Pop Culture. The bright colors and sounds of punk rock, skateboarding, MTV, and the youthful, push-it-to-the-limit attitude of the time, became an integral part of who he is today. Throughout his adolescence, Cronin was a risk taker, often pushing the envelope. Sports and art were the two anchors that kept him in line. On his sixteenth birthday, his parents handed him a Minolta x700 and he began documenting the world around him. These years, instilled a deep sense of framing and placement that is a fundamental part of his work today.
Cronin’s college career began at SUNY Purchase in photography, but he transferred
to SVA after a semester. A childhood pal attending nearby Cooper Union urged him to venture out of his filmic comfort zone and pick up a paintbrush. Cronin heeded him. When his first year at SVA, ended, Cronin decided to take a break from higher education to nurture the free spirit inside and in the summer of 1991, he moved to Boulder, CO. By the spring of 1991, Cronin had returned East and enrolled at SUNY New Paltz where he switched from a Photo major to a Fine Arts painting major. In 1998 he graduated with his BFA. The following year, Cronin married his college sweetheart, Melanie. To this day, she doubles as both spouse and business partner.
Cronin has shown his work in galleries and museums throughout the country, including the famed C Pop Gallery in Detroit, The Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, Parlor Art Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ, Yard Dog Gallery in Austin, TX, and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan to name a few. He has also participated in several art fairs, including NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance), Scope, and Fountain Art Fair (in Miami, New York and Los Angeles). In 2010 he produced and installed a 20-ft.-high inflatable pink rabbit at Art Basel in Miami. The following year during Basel, he completed a 24 ft mural in the Wynwood District of his iconic Aliens Are Coming piece. In 2013 he was commissioned by Hudson Valley Whiskey/Tuthilltown Distillery to paint a grain silo and was recently commissioned by Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue to complete a piece as a gift for Erin, the founder of Susie’s Seniors and her partner, Brandon, of Humans of New York.
Ryan E. Cronin maintains his thirst for life and his work reflects this. When he is not in the studio or in his art gallery, he is out on the lacrosse field as a coach or flailing on stage as the front man of his band, mearth.

Ryan's artwork is unique and original and the colors will brighten up any room in your home or office. The gallery is in a great location at Water Street Market right in New Paltz. Also if you are not ready to splurge on a canvas, they offer smaller prints and other gift items like hats, t-shirts, shower curtains and blankets. You can't miss this place with the big pink bunny outside!
You haven't seen all of New Paltz until you've visited CronArtUSA HQ, located in the adorable Water St. Market. Cronin's art, which is quite possibly the most accessible I've ever encountered, is bright, engaging, and speaks volumes about a range of topics, in a playful, almost irreverent way. His wife Melanie, who runs the enterprise, is hands-down one of the kindest, most welcoming people I've ever met. Likened to a modern day Lee Krasner / Jackson Pollock duo, a visit to the shop is worth the trip just to be able to get to chat with one of the two. Ryan's hand-tailored collection means you get to take a piece of his brain home with you, right down to their new throw blanket collection WHICH IS SO COMFORTABLE. Next time you're in the Hudson Valley, even if you're scared of art, don't be: CronArtUSA is the frontier of visual art: an accessible message to enjoy.
